baby-sitting

Right now my nephews are here.  My mom and step dad are at my step grandpa’s house watching him while my Aunt Jane and her friend that lives with them Judie are out.  I don’t know where Judie and Jane had to go.

Joe Lunkas my step dad’s dad is known as Joker.  Not sure where that nick name started, but everyone I know calls him that.  So he’s known as grandpa Joe, or grandpa Joker.

He’s just like a real grandpa to me.  Even though I didn’t meet him till I was around 12 years old, he’s an awesome individual!  He’s just a great human being.

I’ve always felt like he treated us as well as is own grand kids.  If he favors his own biological grand children he’s never shown it.

My mom and step dad should be here soon.  The boys are getting bored.  They keep asking me if they can go into the basement, can they do this, and can they do that.  Poor boys.  Not a hole lot for young children to do here.  I don’t have any, so cartoon channels is really the best I can do for them.

Richie and Randal are 8 and 10.  Richie is the eldest.  They have a younger brother who is 5 named Zack.  He’s with Rich and Dawn my sister-in-law.  My brother is working on digging them a new well at his house, so my mom has the oldest 2 boys for a few days.

I would let them venture outside, but they messed up.  I let them go outside a few hours ago.  Soon after they got here.

My mom bought us all pizza.  After they ate there pizza Randle asked could they go outside, and I said sure.  However, there was a stipulation.  I told them they had to remain outside for at least 30 minutes.  I said “so if your going to go outside you have to stay out there for 30 minutes.”  My nephews will both run in and out if you allow them too, so I have to set rules about stuff like that, or they’ll just run in and out.

Soon after there outside I hear Randle run inside the house crying “Aunt Vicki I got stung by a bee!”  Then I suddenly got scared.  My brother is highly allergic to bee stings.  If he gets stung by one he has to go to the hospital.  He’s nearly dyed from bee stings.  He has to be very careful.

I’ve never had allergies like that, but knowing Richie does worried me, because of course there his kids, and I don’t know if things like that can run in families or not, so I didn’t know.

The first question I asked Randle is has this happened before?  He said yes, and I said what happened, and what did his mom do.  He said something like his mom put pouter on it or something.  It was then that I began to feel a little relief, because if that’s all she did it must mean that he wasn’t allergic to bee stings like his dad.  That’s what I was thinking at that point.

Then Richie comes to the door and tells me “aunt Vicki there are a lot of bees flying around out here because Randle was throwing rocks at the bee hive.”  I was like oh no!  Immediately I told Richie to get inside the house.

I called my mom and asked her what is the best thing to do to cure a bee sting.  I told her Randle had been stung, and asked her what to do.  She said she’d have to get the stinger out when she got here, and to just give him an ice pack.  I gave him one of those ice things we took home on our trip from North Carolina to visit our friend Belinda.  There those plastic ice packs that have some type of liquid inside of them and that liquid freezes.  I bought 3 of them, and I gave one to Randle to put on the area he got stung.

I was going to take Randle across the street where Jamie one of the neighbors and a girl that went to school with my oldest sister when she was in her early teens lives.  My mom thought Jamie may know how to take out the stinger.  We went outside, however, Randle said a lot of bees were flying around.  I was like get back inside!  I didn’t want to risk anyone else would get stung, and I certainly didn’t want Randle getting stung a second time.  So we went inside, and I notified the both of them that they had to stay inside until Grandma comes.  They were like “auh aunt Vicki!”  I told them that’s what they get for stirring up that bee hive.  Randalis fine now though.  He’s right back to his old self.  Didn’t take long for that.

Those boys!  I love them, but sometimes it’s like my goodness!  Oh my, the joys and pains of children; to me the good out weighs by far the irritation.  Of course, I know that I must have been a pain in the butt to my mom at times.  I still probably am lol.

I just called my mom, and she says there on there way.  Stopping at home depot on there way to get a few things, and there going to pick up some spray to get rid of that bee hive.  We don’t need to get stung ourselves that’s for sure.  Not sure what would happen to Gillis if he were to get stung.  I don’t really want to find out either.

Grandpa Joker has had diabetes for the last like 10 years or so.  Joe’s mom dyed from emphysema on February 4th 1986.  We only really knew her for 2 very short years.  Joker has never remarried.

Grandpa is about 83 years old.  I believe he’ll be 84 in December God willing.

Recently they had to amputate his big toe on one of his feet, and they may have to take the entire lower leg if it doesn’t heal up.  His other big toe may have to be amputated soon as well.  We’re hoping not, but that’s in God’s hands.

He had to go to the hospital the other day.  He wasn’t feeling to well.  So my mom, Joe and Jane must have felt it a good idea that someone stay with him while they go and do there thing.

We had a storm the night before last that knocked out our power.  It was out the entire night.  It came back on 2 times and fooled us.  The first time I went to turn on the computer, and it went out again.  It was then that I unplugged the computer so it wouldn’t receive any power serge when the power went back on, and if it were to go off again.  My friend John told me I should turn it off when it first started storming, but on the news they weren’t saying it was bad here, so stupid me keeps it on.  Thank God it didn’t effect the computer in any way!

Sure enough, it did go on again, then about 5 minutes after being on, it went off again.  These 2 times it came on were like an hour apart.  Like at about 5 and 6 AM.  The power went out approximately 11:30 Wednesday night.  It finely came back at approximately 12 Thursday morning.  Not as bad as like 2 years ago during an ice storm, we lost it for 24 hours.  Get this, that ice storm was in April!  Springs in Michigan can be oh so unpredictable.  Could be nice and 70 degrees, or snowing.  Could be snowing one day, and 70 degrees the next.

Well enough for now.  I’ll write more later.  Will explain in the next entry where Vickaroo comes from.
